Berkeley Research Group was founded by Professor David Teece at University of California Berkeley with a focus on blending Berkeley’s long tradition of innovation and entrepreneurship with deep, real-world industry expertise. As a result, BRG takes a very different approach to consulting. While we continue to take on the hardest client issues in our expert work, we are increasingly focused on digitizing our consultants’ expertise into software that our clients can leverage to solve problems without requiring an onsite consulting team. Following on the ethos of a Silicon Valley startup, this marriage of the world’s foremost experts with technology enables the firm to build novel technology solutions to traditional business problems.
The cliche that “software will eat the world” only tells half the story; properly applied software guided by the hands of experts continues to revolutionize virtually every industry. At BRG, we see technology as the force multiplier for our world-class professionals, powered by our BRG DRIVE™ -- the platform that houses all of our products and utilities.
By partnering with BRG, you not only get world-class software developers (and a built-in starting point with our software) but also experts with deep subject matter expertise in your industry or functional area.
BRG DRIVE™ is a software platform, not an application or product. Inspired by the engineering principle of combining “simple machines” (e.g. wedge, wheel, lever, etc.) to create large, complex machines, we adopted the philosophy of combining simple software tools in creative ways to build products that solve complex problems. We value flexibility, remain fiercely technology agnostic, and integrate the best-in-class tools for the job, rather than build copycat products from scratch. The result? A platform comprised of products and utilities that address problems across virtually any industry or sector. For this reason, our platform doesn’t really fit into a Gartner Magic Quadrant.
Do you love Tableau, Power BI, Qlik, Looker, or any of the other data visualization tools out there? So do we! That’s why we’ve integrated them into the platform. Build visualizations in the software of your choice, then host them in our platform with added features. Tired of scheduling a meeting to discuss findings from an interactive dashboard? Save filters, comment, and collaborate directly with your team (and ours) using our Insights tool. Have live information streaming into your dashboard? Set up triggers with our Alerts engine, or automatically identify suspicious transactions and push them into a review workflow using our Workshop tool. We take the best of data visualization software and layer on business logic to empower you to turn insights into action.
Yes! Whether leveraging computer vision, natural language processing, or anomaly detection through deep learning, we believe that artificial intelligence will continue to transform the business landscape. Continuing our principle of technology agnosticism, we utilize AI tools from companies such as Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure Cognitive Services, or can build our own custom models by leveraging BRG’s own PhDs and AI experts. Not every situation requires the application of AI, but where possible, we look to use the latest tools and methodology to do more with your data. These tools are blended into the platform as utilities that can function seamlessly with the other platform applications.
Just because we use advanced technology doesn’t mean that our methodology is risky or unacceptable to regulators. Our team has worked with some of the world’s largest regulators, governments, and companies in highly regulated industries to bring experience and deep understanding of regulatory principles into a modern, technology-driven environment. We’ve successfully leveraged AI to significantly reduce compliance burdens without sacrificing quality – all while working side-by-side with former and current regulators to ensure we followed solid methodology. Technology reduces human error and enables better compliance. Together we can identify opportunities to inject AI into the compliance process and build something different, and better, together.
